A Ravens Silent Grove

Another day in .... wait, what?

So.

I am sitting here trying to decide what to actually write about. The problem is that I am constantly getting distracted. I am finding things that I need to do such as make my lunch for the day, The cats are running around playing with each other. There is a guy outside pounding away at a giant fake boulder with a sledge hammer . . . I am sure Roam loves that.

And there goes the power saw. Apparently the guy got tired to the sledge hammer. Sorry Roam, I feel for you.

Anyway. There are times I simply don’t want to write. So, I go months without putting anything in my blog. Oh there are plenty of interesting things to talk about but usually I don’t care to share them. Maybe its my anti-social behavior that makes me do this. Maybe it just cause I am lazy. Either way, I have gotten out of practice with my writing.

I have decided to go ahead and start writing a book that I have always wanted to write. The story line is there … sorta. Perhaps there is a few things I need to work on and I have to get permissions from a couple of people in regards to some of the ideas they had. I have to have their ok. So far the first person I asked has pretty much given me a no without actually saying no. It’s a bit of a bump in the road. To use that specific character archetype, I have to change her name and her abilities/skills, which for me changes the whole character.

I have not been able to speak to the other person that is involved in this story. I do have a contact number for them but I need to find a delicate way to get them to OK the use of a couple of ideas he had.

I guess in the end, I could just come up with a whole new storyline but the one in my head I am quite partial to. So changing it would definitely be hard for me. The main two characters (good guy bad buy) are mine to use freely. They are my creations from my own heart. There are other character creations that are mine as well but even they have some aspects that I think I want to change have aspects where I have to deal with other peoples insights.

The two main characters I will be using will be Fortis. I am still working on his last name. His original last name will be changing as it did not really fit him per say. Fortis is a character that I created from my own . . . personality, or at least I would like to think he is. He is actually my ‘good’ guy in the story. He is the type of character we all want to be like, even if it is in our own mind. He is the guy that will sacrifice himself for the greater good. You know all the things that a fairy tale Knight is supposed to be. Honorable, brave, intelligent, good hearted, blaah blaah blaah . . . You get the picture.

The other character is the opposite. He is the main antagonist in this story. Everything Fortis is, this character is not. I call him simply Barkas. I may change it to Bahrakas. I am not totally sure yet. I want his name to have a more harsh sound to it. Barkas (sp pending) is the guy you don’t want to meet in an ally. There is no honor to him. There is no humanity. He acts on his carnal desires such as power, lust, greed and so forth. That is not to say he is an idiot. In fact, he is very cunning and devious. And of course, seeming with most baddies, he has an army at his back. He is the type of guys that expects you to give him something if he asks for it. If you don’t give it to him, he simply takes it. I would not expect him to even ask for anything. If he were to, I think this character would be coerced in to asking. Asking is for the week. Pity is for the week. In any world, it is either act or die.

This of course is the type of story that will be drawn out. There are a few other main characters that will be apart of this book. If it does well, I will have to continue to write following books, making it a series. Anyway, The story will flow mainly around what I have called the ‘Libram of Draconis’. It’s a book written by ancient dragons whose races were dying out. The most powerful of each of these elemental dragons saw the end of their races coming to and end and sought to create the Libram of Draconis with a powerful spell to ensure the survival of their spirits along with their magic so that they race, knowledge and magic will endure. Without giving to much away, during the casting, the book is corrupted because of a red dragons thirst for power. It all goes wrong for the remaining dragons. But because of the quick thinking of a silver dragon, she is able to contort the red dragons spell just enough to keep him from having full control over the magic within the Libram of Draconis. This all sets a drastic turn of evens that forces Fortis into a war that he must fight in an attempt to reclaim his lost honor.

Anyway . . . that’s the story I am working on . . . we will have to see how long it takes to write it. I just need the right way to start it. I know of several different ways to do it but the question is, “Just what way is the best way?”

Dilemma’s dilemmas!
